We have a special program on our list called Rachel's Share The Joy.
This program is designed to share the joy of growing our
wonderful violets with beginning growers.
A beginning grower is a person defined as having 20 or less named
African Violets in their collection.
The beginner who chooses to sign up for this program will be
“adopted” by a member who will send the beginner: leaves,
suckers or plants that the member can comfortably spare.
Remember this is a volunteer run program and there is no
guarantee that things survive. The donors to their best to send
live healthy leaves or plants. A new member should be in the
group on VR for 3 months and be active in participating. Then
they are eligible to join the STJ program. This will give the
new person and the group an opportunity to get to know and share
information about violets. Being in the group for 3 months allows
a new member to learn about violets and helps them get a head
start on being able to grow them.
Share The Joy Rules for Donor and Newbie
This Program will begin starting in April and ending in October Weather
permitting.
I will start taking requests for both Donor and recipients beginning
Jan. 1,2005
1. The Newbie requesting to join the program must have
been a member for 3 months.
2. The Newbie requesting to join the program must be an
‘active’ member posting frequently on the list and be
actively seeking knowledge of african violet culture.
3. The Newbie must have less than 20 named African
Violets.
4. The Newbie needs to e-mail the Donor as soon as a
Donor has been assigned to them. Let the Donor know
what your experience is ((experience putting up leaves or taking care of starter plants?)) It would also be helpful if
you let the donor know what type of violets you have and
maybe tell them what colors you like. At this time you
must make arrangements with the Donor to mail them
$15.00 to cover shipping and handling. Set up a shipping
date that is acceptable to both of you. No Leaves or plants
will be sent until the donor has received the $15.00 and it
has cleared the bank.
5. The Newbie shall e-mail the Donor as soon as the
Share The Joy box has been received. You should keep
in contact letting the Donor know how you are
progressing. Your Donor can be your best friend at this
time and provide you with a wealth of information.
As a recipient we do expect you to return as a donor as
soon as your collection is large enough to start sharing.
Rachel's Violet Reflections is all about learning and
sharing the information we have learned with our newer
members.
Donor Rules
1. Make sure your Newbie has contacted you and made arrangements to send the $15.00 to cover some of the
cost. Set up a shipping date that is acceptable to both of
you. Please DO NOT send until the money has cleared
your bank. Please DO NOT ship without payment of the
$15.00. I know some people tend to say don't bother with
the money but to keep it fair to everyone we all need to
receive the payment first before shipping.
2. Review you packing method. Don’t mix leaves &
plantlets in the same box (they can be placed in a small
box inside the box of plantlets.) Ask the group for
shipping suggestions if you’ve never shipped before.
3. Please try to stay in contact with your Newbie for a
while. They will probably need your help along the way.
Try to find out what growing experience they have and
ship accordingly.
We want this to be a pleasant experience for the Donor
as well as the Newbie.
